Maruti Suzuki has given its popular tall-boy hatchback, the Wagon R, a major safety upgrade for 2025. The updated Wagon R now comes with six airbags as standard across all variants. The addition of six airbags — which includes dual front airbags, side airbags for front occupants, and curtain airbags — aligns the Wagon R with a growing list of Maruti Suzuki cars that have adopted this safety enhancement recently. Other models like the Brezza, Grand Vitara, Eeco and Celerio have also been upgraded in a similar manner.

Besides the important safety upgrade, the new Wagon R sticks to its familiar styling. Visually, it looks unchanged in terms of design for both interior and exterior profiles. Key features include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, electric ORVMs, and 14-inch alloy wheels.
In terms of safety, the model gets features like ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, rear parking sensors, and central locking. Maruti has not made any mechanical changes under the hood. The hatchback continues to be offered with two engine options: 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol and 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol. Both engines are paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. The 1.0-litre engine is also available with a factory-fitted CNG option.
Maruti recently announced a price hike of up to Rs 15,000 for the Wagon R, though detailed variant-wise pricing for the updated model is yet to be revealed. With these improvements, the Wagon R not only maintains its position as one of the country’s top-selling cars but now also takes a firm step forward in terms of passenger safety.
