The Bihar government has announced a gift for new lawyers. New lawyers enrolled from January 1, 2024, will receive a monthly stipend of ₹5,000 for three years. This payment will be made through the Bihar State Bar Council.
Ahead of the Bihar elections, the state government is making numerous announcements. In this context, the Bihar government has also taken a significant decision for new lawyers. In fact, the Bihar government has announced a monthly stipend of ₹5,000 for three years to all new lawyers enrolled in the state from January 1, 2024. This amount will be paid through the Bihar State Bar Council. Regarding this decision, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary stated that, upon the request of the State Bar Association, a one-time grant of ₹5 lakh will be provided to establish a library for new lawyers. Additionally, an amount of ₹30 crore will be provided to the Bihar Advocates Welfare Trust Committee.
Women Lawyers and Healthcare
Lawyers in Bihar with incomes below the income tax limit will receive assistance under the Chief Minister's Medical Assistance Fund. Furthermore, the availability of private toilets for women lawyers will be ensured in the Bar Associations. The Chief Minister stated that providing adequate resources, infrastructure, and a better work environment to lawyers, officers, and staff is essential to strengthening the judicial system. These decisions regarding the new stipend have sparked a wave of joy among lawyers. The Patna High Court Bar Association has welcomed this move. Association Vice President Chhaya Mishra described it as a historic and encouraging decision for new lawyers. She said that this scheme will prove to be very helpful for economically disadvantaged lawyers.
How to Apply for the Scheme
The Bihar State Government has announced the scheme, but the application process and required documents for receiving the stipend have not yet been released through the State Bar Council. However, it is expected that information regarding the application process will be released soon.
A major gift for lawyers as well as Vikas Mitras
The Bihar government has given a significant boost not only to new lawyers but also to Vikas Mitras. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced that each Vikas Mitra working under the Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mission will receive ₹25,000. Additionally, the monthly transportation allowance for Vikas Mitras has been increased from ₹1,900 to ₹2,500, and the stationery allowance from ₹900 to ₹1,500.
