Confirmed Train Ticket Cancellation Charges: You planned your journey, you also got a confirmed train ticket for it, but for some reason, the travel plan has changed now. In such a situation, the first question that comes up is how much money will be deducted on cancelling the ticket, and how you will get a refund. IRCTC has set clear rules for this, which depend on when you are cancelling the ticket.

Cancellation will be done online; no need to go to the counter.

Now you do not need to go anywhere to cancel an e-ticket. Log in to the IRCTC website or app and click on your booked ticket (Confirmed IRCTC Ticket), and cancellation will be done in a few minutes. You can put a cancellation request both before and after the chart is prepared, but after the chart is prepared, you will not get a direct refund; rather, it will be necessary to file a TDR.

An e-ticket cannot be cancelled at the railway counter. If you want, you can cancel only part of the ticket (partial) or the full ticket (full).

Rule for cancelling ticket after chart preparation

After the chart is prepared, the e-ticket cannot be cancelled directly (Train ticket cancellation online). For this, TDR has to be filed, which is necessary to do about 4 hours before the scheduled time of the train. There will be no refund in case of delay.

Will there be a refund on cancelling the Tatkal ticket?

There will be no refund for cancelling the confirmed Tatkal ticket. But if the Tatkal ticket is waitlisted or RAC and it is cancelled 4 hours before the departure of the train, then the remaining amount will be refunded after deducting Rs 20 + GST per passenger. Partial cancellation is also possible.

Will there be a refund if the train is cancelled?

If the train is showing "Cancelled" in the PRS system, such as due to flood, accident, or technical reasons, then the full fare will be refunded. For e-tickets, this cancellation has to be done online and it is necessary to do it within 3 days from the scheduled time of the train.
