After retirement, most seniors' entire lives depend on their pension. This covers medical expenses, household expenses, electricity and water bills, and daily necessities. If the pension is stopped, it can be a huge problem. Often, this isn't due to any major reason, but rather due to minor mistakes or negligence. So, let's tell you today what mistakes seniors should avoid, as they could end up withholding their pension.
Pensioners should avoid this mistake.
The most common reason for seniors losing their pension is failing to submit necessary documents on time. Generally, if the life certificate isn't submitted within the stipulated time, the government can withhold the pension. A life certificate is a document that proves that the pension recipient is still alive. The government requires this proof every year to ensure that the pension is being paid to the right person and that no fraud is taking place. Previously, senior citizens had to travel to banks or government offices to submit this certificate. However, this process has now become much easier. Pensioners are required to submit their life certificates between November 1st and 30th every year. Failure to do so could result in a suspension of their pension from the following month.
How can you submit a life certificate from home?
Seniors no longer need to stand in line at banks to submit their life certificates. The government has digitalized this process. Submitting your life certificate from home is now possible through the Jeevan Pramaan app. Aadhaar biometric authentication is performed using your mobile or laptop. Alternatively, this process can also be completed by calling a post office agent at home. This way, you won't need to travel anywhere and your pension will continue to be paid on time.
Pension can be stopped even without these documents.
- Age Certificate - In addition to the life certificate, there are other important documents without which your pension can be stopped. This includes an age certificate. For this, you must show your Aadhaar card, voter ID, ration card, birth certificate, 10th grade marksheet, passport, or driving license.
- Address Proof - Your pension can also be stopped without address proof. For address proof, you must show one of the following documents: Aadhaar card, electricity card, bank passbook, or ration card.
- Bank Details - Your pension can also be stopped due to incomplete bank details. In such cases, it is important to include your bank account number, IFSC code, and a copy of the passbook in your pension details.
- Pension Information - Your pension can also be stopped if your pension information is incorrect. In such cases, you must also have your PPO number or pension ID and income declaration certificate.
