The White Lotus creator Mike White has opened up about ditching a storyline from the show's third season, citing a "vibe shift" as one of the reasons.
Carrie Coon, who stars as Laurie in the acclaimed HBO series, had previously spilled the beans that her character's child's exploration of gender identity was axed by Mike.
Chatting with , Carrie dished on Laurie's mysterious past, saying: "There was a bit more context to her home life. You originally found out that her daughter was actually non-binary, maybe trans, and going by they/them. You see Laurie struggling to explain it to her friends, struggling to use they/them pronouns, struggling with the language, which was all interesting."

Yet, the plot was snipped, despite being just a "short scene" after clinched reelection last year, according to Carrie.
She revealed that the scrapped scene was penned "before the election" and would have shed light on why Kate's vote for Trump in episode three hit Laurie so hard personally, reports .
Mike, shedding fresh light on his choice to drop the subplot, told : "It felt right in March of last year. Now, there's a vibe shift. I don't think that it was radical, but that's not the kind of attention I want."
He added: "The politics of it could overwhelm whatever ideas I'm trying to talk about. And a lot of it was about time. Every episode is bulging at 60 minutes."
The screenwriter let slip that they had to leave a bunch of content out of season three, struggling not to make the episodes drag on because they had so much good material.
"There's a lot of stuff that ended up being cut. Not because it wasn't cool, I just needed to be hard on the material. As a writer, I got a little indulged," he confessed in a chat.
With the final episode of The White Lotus season three set to drop on 6 April, fans are all abuzz trying to figure out what the climax will hold in the much-anticipated finale.
Spilling the beans to People magazine, the shows top boss David Bernard explained that he and creator Mike had cooked up a Plan B to keep the finale's surprises tightly under wraps.
"We have fake endings to the scripts," David dished to the publication. "So we wrote up - we have six different endings - and we kind of distributed fake endings to people just in case someone leaked anything, and then we could say there's different fake endings."
The White Lotus season 3 finale premieres on April 6 on HBO.
