Premier League strikes new deal to broadcast more than 200 matches for free

The Premier League has agreed a new deal with the BBC to broadcast 209 matches live and for free each season starting from next year.

The new deal with the broadcaster's Radio 5 Live will allow supporters to tune into live commentary from the Premier League. Across each matchday, Radio 5 Live will provide coverage on at least five fixtures in the top flight which includes exclusive commentary of both 3pm kick offs starting from the 2025/26 season.

Alongside those slots, the BBC will also provide live coverage of Saturday's 5:30pm kick off and Sunday's 2pm and 4:30pm games. Commenting on the new deal, the BBC's controller of 5 Live and 5 Live Sports Extra, Heidi Dawson said: "With more live commentary matches than ever before, BBC Radio 5 Live remains the home of Premier League football.

"For the next four years, 5 Live will bring football fans the biggest games across the weekend, with all the drama and excitement from the world’s greatest football league." The has been slammed in recent years for their continued attack on piracy while also spreading TV broadcast rights around different media outlets.

This season, , TNT Sports and Amazon Prime will all be broadcasting matches from the . In December last year, a new deal was signed off by the Premier League for the 2025/26 season onwards which would see just Sky Sports and TNT Sports showing games.

Sky Sports will be showing a minimum of 215 live matches per season with TNT Sports awarded 52 games. Across the four years of that deal, the Premier League will generate £6.7bn in revenue which includes the rights allowed to the BBC's .
