Son Heung-min has sent a heartfelt Tottenham message after having his transfer to MLS side LAFC announced. Ahead of facing Newcastle United in South Korea, the Spurs captain confirmed his plan to depart north London this summer.
"Before we start, I just want to share the information that I have decided to leave this club this summer,"he said at a press conference. "Respectfully, this club is helping me to make my decision. I just want to share this before we start.
Asked specifically about his decision to depart now, Son replied: "It was the most difficult decision I have made in my career. I have spent 10 years at Tottenham. The main reason is I have achieved everything I can at Tottenham.

"I need a new environment for a fresh challenge. I’m grateful the club have respected my decision and wish Spurs well for the next season."
Following on from that, Son led Tottenham out for the final time against Newcastle on Sunday before being replaced after 62 minutes with almost every player on the pitch shaking his hand or hugging him. The 33-year-old could then be seen in tears on the bench.
While the Spurs squad headed back to England, Son remained in his home country and just a few days later his next move has been confirmed with LAFC signing him for an MLS-record fee that is over £20million.
Considering his decade of service to Tottenham, Son was given the chance to issue an heartfelt opener letter to supporters with a video being released on Wednesday evening. "Dear Spurs fans, you're always in my pictures," he said. "Every time I celebrate, I make a memory of you. It's our moment. I make the frame so I don't forget.
"You welcomed me to north London. You watched me grow. Beautiful moments: The golden boot, the Puskas award, you were there. When I suffered, you were still there. You stayed with me and I stayed with you.
"I never imagined captaining this team but I always dreamed winning something for you. We won the Europa League and you all deserve it. Thank you for these years. Keep every picture. You were always in the frame. Thank you so much.
"Love, Sonny."
Following that, a club statement from Tottenham said: "The club can confirm the permanent transfer of Heung-Min Son to LAFC. Thank you will never be enough, Sonny."
