Dimitar Berbatov makes pointed Tottenham remark with Ange Postecoglou hope

Former striker has said that the team’s second-half performance against Aston Villa is how they should play from now on, suggesting that the team’s attacking style is reverting back to how they used to play.

The game saw them bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Crystal Palace in the previous Premier League outing and build on a morale-boosting 2-1 League Cup win over Manchester City.

Analysing the win, Berbatov is hoping to see performances similar to those of the second half more regularly this season. “This is what normally Spurs are, unpredictable. Sometimes you expect one thing, something else happens,” he said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

“But the good thing is is they bounce back and they bounce in a great, great performance in the second half.”

When asked if the second-half performance is how he wants to see Spurs play, he added: “Yes, because this is how it used to be, how it should be, entertaining the fans and scoring goals like this.”

He also added on Solanke’s brace: “He’s a striker, a striker thrives on goals, a striker builds confidence on goals, and when you score goals, it doesn’t matter how, it’s about scoring.”

The show goes on to look at the improvement in stats, including expected goals, expected goals against, and expected goals difference in this season compared to last year. The stats make good reading for Spurs, and it could possibly lead to one thing the club are craving, according to Berbatov.

“This is improving, they are improving in a way,” he added. ”It can give them confidence and they can build on that, let's hope it’s going to produce more points on the board, getting higher in the table, and who knows, maybe finally winning a trophy.”

Spurs are back in action on Thursday night as they face Turkish side Galatasaray away in the Europa League. They return to Premier League action three days later when they host winless Ipswich Town at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon (2pm kick-off).
